Volunteering

Do you have a few spare hours? Do you want to meet new people? Do you want to help your community?

There are some volunteering opportunities at the Hive and here are some of the ways you can help.

Youth Work: Do you know the old African adage ‘It takes a whole village to bring up a child”? There is some truth in it and if you are someone who believes in supporting young people to make positive life decisions perhaps volunteering with our youth team is for you. We want the youngsters to have fun as well, and Open Access Youth Work will take place for two hours on a Monday and Wednesday evening. You can choose how many sessions you do in a week or a fortnight. Full training will be given and a DBS check is required for this role.

Reception duties: This involves welcoming people to The Hive Community Centre and whilst we are still under Covid-19 restrictions encouraging them to adhere to all the guidelines. There is also answering the phone, taking messages, answering questions, taking payments etc. You will need to understand our fire evacuation procedure and take charge of this if there is an emergency. Full training will be given for this role. We ask for a 3 hour or a 3.5 hour session once a fortnight or more if you have more time to give.

Gardens and Grounds: We want to keep The Hive Community Centre looking well cared for and welcoming for the community. Tasks involve mowing, strimming, edging, weeding, and sweeping the car park. Eventually we want to develop a garden which the café can use in the summer. We ask for a half day a week or a fortnight and full training will be given for this role.

DIY and Maintenance: If you have a passion for DIY and maintenance we are looking for volunteers to assist us with a wide range of jobs that crop up daily in the Hive. Anything from changing a light bulb to fixing a door lock, to maybe a spot of painting.

The Beehive Cafe: On a Saturday morning we will be running our very own small cafe serving hot and cold drinks, pastries, waffles, toast etc. If you are interested in helping out in the cafe and enjoy meeting new people in a dynamic and diverse environment, get in touch
